This is not an advertisement for NSTAR but a description of an alternative energy option for all of their customers of which I am one.  I do not now nor have I ever worked for this or any other utility company.  That said I will tell you about NSTAR Green.  This is available for residential and small business customers who want to support renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to help stop global warming by providing actual wind-generated energy.  There are two choices: NSTAR Green 100 or NSTAR Green 50; in the former all electrical usage will come from wind power and the latter 50% from wind and the rest will be traditionally sourced.  At present wind-generated electricity costs slightly more to produce, so there is an additional charge for NSTAR Green which the company estimates will add $4 to $7 to a typical customer bill.  The benefit to our environment will ultimately outweigh the extra expense.

It takes about 5 minutes to sign up on NSTAR’s website www.nstar.com or by calling 1-800-592-2000.  You will need your account number so you should locate an electric bill ahead of time.  If you sign up via the website click on the “NSTAR Green” link and enter your information and that should do it.  You will have bought wind power without having to install your own turbine and we can all feel good about that.
